Description
BMW Welt in Munich is a large-scale project made out of information centre, plant, and museum, coming together into a unique and fascinating experience for car lovers and BMW fans.
The building opened in 2007 is a masterpiece of modern architecture, perfectly presenting the various brands of BMW Group, from BMW, Mini and Motor Cars to Rolls Royce. The mix between vehicle roll-out and exhibition makes BMW Welt a communicative and stimulating place, where customers as well as visitors will be impressed.
Right across from the company's headquarters, history and present of the brand BMW become one. Numerous restaurants, shops, and the delivering plant make a visit to BMW Welt a great experience for the young and the old.
Guided Tours and Exhibitions
Look behind the scenes of the unique exhibition hall on a guided tour through BMW Welt. If you are interested in the history of BMW as a company and a brand, its background as well as its visions for the future, you should go on a tour through the museum. Car lovers and technology geeks will enjoy a factory tour through the parent plant of BMW Group.
Exclusive cars, motorbikes and motors as well as theme worlds make up the exciting permanent exhibition that was redesigned in 2012. Seven houses with 26 different key subjects teach you everything about history, design, motorcycle, motor sports, advertising and more. You will see the most valuable exhibits from 90 years of BMW. Furthermore, temporary exhibitions change several times a year.
Historical Information
It was decided in the late 90s, that a delivery plant combined with a museum was to be built. A suitable place was easily found, as the construction was supposed to emerge near the headquarters. Out of 275 applicants from all over the world, the Professor Prix in cooperation with the architectural firm Coop Himmelbl(l)auf were chosen to plan and execute the gigantic project.
In 2003, the former BMW car park was demolished, starting the preparations. The foundation stone was laid in 2004. BMW Welt was inaugurated in 2007, and has been attracting millions of visitors since.
How to get there
By car
From either direction, follow the signs from Mittlerer Ring to Olympiapark. Just after the BMW car park, turn right into Lerchenauer Straße, where the garage is located on the left.
Public transportation
From Marienplatz, take subway U3 towards Olympiaeinkaufszentrum to Olympiazentrum station, which is only a few steps away from BMW Welt.
