Japan is located in the Pacific Ocean east of Korea. With about 6800 islands, Japan is one of the largest island states in the world. The five main islands are Hokkaido, Honshu, Shikoku, Kyushu and Okinawa. The cultural centre of the country is the capital Tokyo.
