Description
The AlpspiX viewing platform is located at an altitude of 2050 metres at the summit of Osterfelderkopf, about 50 metres from the mountain station of the Alpspitz cable car in Garmisch-Partenkirchen.
Two 25 metre long and 3 metre wide walkable steel girders protrude 13 metres above the rock edge of the mountain. They are arranged in the form of an "X", hence the name of the platform. When you walk over the barred floor of the footbridges to the glazed end, you stand 1000 metres above the abyss and have an unrestricted view of the depths of the Höllental as well as a unique panoramic view of the Zugspitze, the Alpspitz north face, Garmisch-Partenkirchen and the surrounding mountain world.
You can also visit the AlpspiX during a hike. It is both a stop on the family-friendly summit experience trail around the Osterfelderkopf and on the pleasure experience trail leading to the Kreuzeck cable car mountain station, the valley station of which is right next to that of the Alpspitz cable car.
Historical Information
The AlpspiX viewing platform was inaugurated in July 2010 together with the Garmisch Classic World of Experience, which has significantly increased the attractiveness of the region, especially for families in summer.
There are now several spectacular viewing platforms in the Alpine region, including the Krippenstein near Obertraun.
