Description

The Allgäu Mountain Farm Museum in Diepolz near Immenstadt vividly documents the life and work of mountain farmers 200 years ago. A nature trail leads you around the open-air museum and invites you to actively participate and try things out at many stations.

A walk-in cow's stomach at the Wiedemann farm shows you the journey from grass to milk. You can find out what it feels like to jump into hay in the farm's haystack. All kinds of animals, such as Allgäu Brown cattle, mountain sheep, and Swabian-Hällisch pigs, can be discovered here.

On the way to the 300-year-old Sattler farm, you will pass a bee and beekeeper's house and a farm and herb garden. In the forest playground behind the historic farm, you can enjoy a good view of the museum grounds and the surrounding landscape from the raised hide. Information on forestry work and poaching is available in the Rosshütte.

The museum tour continues to the Höfle-Alpe, where there is an exhibition on alpine farming. The historic alpine pasture also invites you to enjoy a snack with a fantastic mountain backdrop from the Ammergau Mountains to the Appenzell peaks.

The five-kilometer Kuhnigunden circular trail is ideal for a post-meal walk. The adventure trail starts above the Höfle-Alpe and takes you through forests, meadows, and high moors.

Historical Information

The museum was opened in 2002. Most of the individual farms originate from the surrounding area and have been faithfully reconstructed in Diepolz.

The 300-year-old Sattler farm originally stood in Schöllang near Oberstdorf. The history of the Wiedemann farm can be traced back to 1787, and the Rosshütte farm was formerly located in the municipal forest of Immenstadt. After initially being used as an alpine dairy, the Höfle-Alpe was used as hunting quarters by the Bavarian Prince Regent Luitpold from 1896 onwards.
