Description
The Friseurmuseum (Hairdressing Museum) in Neu-Ulm, known as "Herr Zopf’s Friseurmuseum," is the largest of its kind in the world and a true paradise for culture and history enthusiasts. Founded by Heinz Zopf, a master hairdresser, amateur historian, and passionate collector, the museum today houses an impressive collection of around 30,000 artifacts that bring the history of hairdressing to life.
Since 2013, the museum has been located on the grounds of the German Hairdressing Academy and invites visitors on a unique journey through centuries of history. From the early days of bathhouse attendants and barbers to the intricate creations of wig makers, the historical development of the hairdressing craft is vividly depicted. A special highlight is the personal tour by museum director Harald Gloning, who guides visitors through the exhibition with fascinating knowledge and a touch of humor.
Among the collection’s treasures is the listed Harand Hairdressing Salon, where notable figures such as the Queen of Greece and actor Heinz Rühmann were once styled. The collection is further enriched by intricately decorated "moustache cups" from the imperial era and a unique exhibit made entirely of hair. These extraordinary and often whimsical artifacts make the visit an unforgettable experience, bringing history to life in a tangible way.
The museum is dedicated to preserving Heinz Zopf’s life’s work for future generations and continually expanding the unique collection in its scale and scope. At the same time, it seeks to honor and elevate the dignity and artistry of the hairdressing profession, aiming to restore the recognition this often-underappreciated craft truly deserves.
