Route description
Start at the Swimming Area
Before you start the actual tour, you should get your riddle folder from the main building at the swimming area, where you get plenty of information about your journey on the fairytale path. It also includes a map of the area, so you have a good orientation from the beginning, and don't lose your bearings along the way. Walk past lake Aschauerweiher and follwo the trail into the forest. After a few steps, you will get to Maximiliansreitweg trail, on which you hike the first section.
Riddles on the Circular Path
The circular path leds you through the forest, where you enjoy a fairytale landscape. Young hikers can marvel at wooden figures, and enjoy the nature. At the loop, you pass various stations for the young and the old, where you have to answer questions about the world of fairytales. Each board features little images of the respective story as a hint. If you solve all the riddles on your journey, you can go to Bischofswiesen tourist information to claim your reward. After the hike, you get back to the swimming area, where you can relax and refresh.
Interesting facts
- You're traveling a distance of 2 km on this easy trail. The hike is therefore not too long. The average length of all hikes in Bavaria is 43 km.
- Don’t hesitate to take your kids along on this easy hikes.
- Make sure to bring sturdy footwear on this track. Hiking boots are highly recommended.

Getting here
By car
From Salzburg, you drive on Salzburger Straße (B159) at first, then change onto Alpenstraße (B160). After you cross the border to Germany, continue on B305. Just before the salt mine Berchtesgaden, turn right onto Salzburger Straße and drive to Aschauerweiherstraße via Locksteinstraße, where the swimming area is located.
From Badreichenhall you get to Bischofswiesen via Berchtesgadener Straße (B20), where you turn left onto Aschauerweiherstraße, which leads you to the starting point of the hike.
Public transportation
Trains go from Bad Reichenhall to Bischofswiesen on a regular basis. From here, you either get a taxi or walk the remaining 2.7km/1.7mi to the starting point.
