Description
The world's first Dackel Museum has found a new home: Since the end of April 2023, everything revolves around the Bavarians' favorite four-legged friend in Regensburg's old town. Previously, the curious exhibition had been located for five years in Passau, where the two founders also come from. After a dispute with the city of Passau's public order office over an unauthorized parasol in front of the entrance, the dachshund experts went in search of a new home.
The Regensburg Dachshund Museum now has a proud 5000 exhibits on display. Already considerably more than in the smaller premises in Passau. However, since the two owners have already collected over 10,000 dachshund objects from all over the world, the exhibition will keep changing over time. The exhibition can be visited alone or as part of a guided tour. Dogs are allowed on the premises free of charge.
From June, the Café "zum schwarzen Dackel" is also to open in the immediate vicinity and, of course, the dachshund parades of the two owners must not be missed in Regensburg.
Historical Information
Origin and history
The Passau Dachshund Museum celebrated its opening on April 2, 2018. It was founded by the two Passau residents Josef Küblbeck and Oliver Storz. The couple collected exhibits from antique shops and flea markets around the popular four-legged friend for decades. After another dachshund fan from Belgium learned of the couple's museum plans, he bequeathed them his own extensive dachshund collection.
Due to the small space, only about half of the exhibits were on display in the Passau Dachshund Museum. In the new rooms in Regensburg's old town, the couple can now display as many as 5,000 dachshund-related collectibles at a time. Since there are already more than 10,000 exhibits in total, the exhibition will keep changing in the coming years and months.
