Route description
Past Schleifmühl Chapel and Stunning Waterfalls
Starting at the car park, walk right past the chapel Schleifmühlenkapelle and turn right at the first junction to the ravine Schleifmühlenklamm. After starting off plane, the path gets steadily steeper after passing the old mill Schleifmühle and leads up to the waterfalls. Continue over the different steep tracks and enjoy the incredible waterfalls and little pools that form underneath them. At the end of the ridge, a bridge leads across a huge waterfall, enjoy that incredible natural spectacle.
Steep Up-Hill
Now turn right past former mills and hike upwards. After a short time you will reach a junction at a bridge where you can choose which way you want to go. We went to the left. It follows an approximately 1.5 km long steep ascent on rocky roads.
To Langenthal and Back With a View of Zugspitze
At the end of that road, continue on a forest road into valley Langenthal. At the end of the valley, keep left and continue walking up. You will have a great view of the mountains, the Alps and grazing cows. Finally at the top, reward yourself with a meal at Pürschlinghaus and enjoy the view of Germany's highest mountain Zugspitze. Afterwards, take the same way back to the car park.
Interesting facts
- You're traveling a distance of 12 km on this strenuous trail. The average length of all hikes in Bavaria is 43 km.
- Sturdy hiking boots are recommended on this track. There are places to buy beverages and food along the track. However it’s always recommended to bring enough water and food along with you.
Highlights of the tour
Schleifmühlen gorge is definitely the highlight of the hike. With its waterfalls and puddles, it is an impressive natural spectacle.
