Route description
This unique hike leads above treetops on a classic high trail from Schynige Platte to the oldest mountain hotel in europe. Especially beautiful is the contrast between snowy mountains and deep green grass. Another specialty is the alpine garden at Schynige Platte, where you can admire over 500 domestic alpine flowers and the mountain lakes Sägistalsee and Bachalpsee.
The hike leads over natural paths and partly through rock and boulder trails through following parts:
Schynige Platte- Oberberg- Lauchern- Güwtürli- Egg- Mändlenen- Faulhorn- Bachalpsee- First

- With an overall length of 16 km the hike is among the 15 longest hikes in Switzerland available on TouriSpo.
- Elevated between 1,784 m and 2,681 m, the hike is among the 15 highest elevated hikes in Switzerland. You're facing an uphill climb of 897 vertical meters on this hike. This makes the hike one of the 15 hikes with the most ascent in Switzerland.
- You shouldn’t forget to bring your hiking boots. There are some sections on the trail where sturdy footwear is required. If you get hungry along the way, there are places to rest and get food. Nevertheless it’s recommended to also have enough water and food in your backpack when hiking or biking.

The beautiful ride on the cable car Zahnradbahn above Alp Breitlauenen onto Schynige Platte takes approximately one hour. Season: June 8th – October 20th
