Route description
Starting at Fuchskaute, the highest hill of Westerwald, you follow the path to Rabenscheid, where you follow Rothaarsteig trail and later Rothaarsteig-Zuweg towards Breitscheid. At the landing grounds in Breitscheid, you meet Westerwald-Steig trail, which you follow to the of the hike.

You can grab a bite at Gasthaus Fuchskaute at the start and ending point of the tour.

- With an overall length of 18 km the hike is among the 3 longest hikes in the Rhineland-Palatinate available on TouriSpo.
- Loop hike "Fuchsschleife" (via Rabenscheid and Heisterberg) is among the 5 best rated Hikes in Germany.
- Taking your dog on this trail shouldn’t be a problem.
- You shouldn’t forget to bring your hiking boots. There are some sections on the trail where sturdy footwear is required. There are places to buy beverages and food along the track. However it’s always recommended to bring enough water and food along with you.
Equipment
Sturdy shoes and weather-proof clothing are recommended. Furthermore, you should bring some provisions.
Getting here
By car:
You can get to the inn at Fuchskaute, where the tour starts, via B414. Between Nister-Möhrendorf and exit Aubachstraße, take the hidden trail marked as K37. After a few metres, turn right onto a road leading to the inn.
Public transportation:
You can take bus line 520 from Herborn. In Heisterberg, exit at the stop Driedorf, and change buses to go towards Waldaubach to Fuchskaute. The earliest connection goes at 7:40.
