Route description
Start at Hirschbichlalm. First go left and shortly after the huts (Almhütten) follow the signs towards Berg. Via alp Krössbrunnalm, with a view on mountain lakes, you reach the saddle Übergansjoch. Enjoy the panorama across the alpine huts Almhütten von Hochfügen. Continue right onto rocky Machkopf. From the peak at 2499m hight starts the steep descent to hut Wedelhütte. Follow the marked path through the basin back to Hirschbichlalm, where the tour started.
Interesting facts
- You're traveling a distance of 8 km on this strenuous trail. The hike is therefore not too long. The average length of all hikes in Tyrol is 15 km.
- You're facing an uphill climb of 706 vertical meters on this hike. The high point of the hike is located at an elevation of 2,500 m.
- In case of good weather conditions, the hike can also be done without bringing your hiking boots. There are places to buy beverages and food along the track. However it’s always recommended to bring enough water and food along with you.

By car
Take A12 (Inntalautobahn), exit Wiesing and continue on B169 towards Achensee/Zillertal (2nd exit within roundabout). Continue further and take exit Rohrerstrasse/L331, keep right. Now turn right onto Unterdorf then turn left onto Zellerbergeben. Left onto Zellberg and stay on that street. Parking available at Hirschbichlalm.
Starting point of this tour is alp Hirschbichlalm which you will find right on Zillertaler Höhenstrasse. This road is known to be one of the most beautiful alpine roads in Austria.
