Route description
This long-distance hike leads you around Nature Park Elbhöhen-Wendland, and consists of Drawehn Highroad, Wendland Querweg, and Elb Highroad, which can also be walked separately. The hike is typically divided into 10 stages, but can of course be orgaised individually.
Interesting facts
- With an overall length of 184 km the hike is among the 10 longest hikes in Germany available on TouriSpo.
- You shouldn’t forget to bring your hiking boots. There are some sections on the trail where sturdy footwear is required. There are places to buy beverages and food along the track. However it’s always recommended to bring enough water and food along with you.
Getting here
By car
Coming from Hamburg, follow motorway A39 to Lüneburg. Leave Lüneburg ring road at exit Dannenberg, and turn right onto B216 towards Dannenberg. After you have crossed the town of Metzingen, turn left to Hitzacker.
Coming from Berlin, exit A24 at Neustadt-Glewe towards Ludwigslust. Follow B191 to Dannenberg, turning left twice and then right in Ludwigslust. In Dannenberg, change onto B216 towards Lüneburg, then turn right to Hitzacker.
Coming from Hannover, drive on B191 via Uelzen towards Dannenberg. In Pudripp, turn left and drive through Hitzacker via Metzingen.
Coming from Magdeburg, B71 takes you to Salzwedel, then you continue on B248 to Hitzacker (via Lüchow and Dannenberg).
