Hike Bichlalm

Route description

There are many options to get to Bichlalm: The easiest starts in Ellmautal above the hotel Lammwirt. Easily walk along the road and through the forest to Bichlalm. The more athletic option starts at the farm Finsterwald (or directly from the town center in Großarl – approximately 1h from Großarl to farm Finsterwald) via a path called „Himmelsleiter“ to Bichlalm. You will feel like climbing up Jacob's ladder towards heaven. Until you get back on the road the path leads steeply through the forest.

Right where you get back on the road halt and enjoy the picturesque view.

Continue on the forest road parallel to Bichlalm and enjoy home-made delicacies like bread, butter, bacon, cheese and schnapps. Kids can play on the playground.

Above Bichlalm you will find a cross with a carved Jesus. Here as on many local alps and mountains you can feel the (former) strong bond to religion in that area. Until today a cross, a chapel or a wayside cross is a place to halt and to give thanks.
