Description & Details
Blue Lagoon is an outdoor thermal bath located amidst a lava field near Grindavík. With geothermal water from up to 2,200 metres below ground level, heated up to 240° by the remaining heat of the magma; seeped in fresh water; and sea water coming in from the coast, the lake holds approximately 6 million litres of water. It gets its characteristic blue colour from silicic acid in the water. Thanks to the minerals it contains, the water at the Blue Lagoon has several health benefits.
Apart from the salt water lake, the facility also features saunas and steam baths, an artificial waterfall, and some quiet areas. Furthermore, you can get refreshments at a café, a bar, and the Lava Restaurant.
