Description
Luxury, fashion, and lifestyle—that’s what awaits you on Rodeo Drive in the heart of Beverly Hills. Stroll through exclusive boutiques, admire luxurious hotels, or dine at exquisite restaurants. And maybe you’ll even spot a Hollywood star or two...
Stroll through the stores of luxury brands
Rodeo Drive stretches from Sunset Boulevard in the north to S. Beverwil Drive in the south, covering a distance of about two miles (approximately 3.2 kilometers). Even from the outside, the beautiful buildings hint at the exclusive stores they house. Internationally renowned luxury brands such as Giorgio Armani, Gucci, Dolce & Gabbana, Prada, Valentino, Roberto Cavalli, Hugo Boss, Dior, Yves Saint Laurent, Hermès, Chanel, Louis Vuitton, Lacoste, Ralph Lauren, and Michael Kors have their stores here. But Rolex, Mont Blanc, Omega, and Bang & Olufsen—as well as numerous jewelers such as Bulgari, Cartier, and De Beers—also invite visitors to enjoy special shopping experiences.
The World’s Most Expensive Shopping Centers
In addition to these boutiques, Rodeo Drive is also home to the world’s most expensive shopping centers, such as The Rodeo Collection. Two Rodeo is located on Two Rodeo Drive, a short stretch of street that exudes European charm with its fountains, piazza, small balconies, and a “Spanish Steps.” Right next to it is the famous Beverly Wilshire Hotel on Wilshire Boulevard. The northern part of the street is an elegant residential area. There you’ll also find the historic Beverly Hills Hotel, which opened in 1912 and has been owned by the Sultan of Brunei for nearly 30 years.
The Rodeo Drive Walk of Style
Today, property prices and rents on Rodeo Drive are among the highest in the world. The surrounding streets of the Golden Triangle, which are also home to numerous shops and restaurants, benefit from this as well. In 2003, Rodeo Drive underwent a $18 million renovation. As part of this project, the streets were widened, palm trees were planted, and the Rodeo Drive Walk of Style was created. Plaques embedded in the sidewalks feature various fashion icons and their significant contributions to the fashion world. In addition, the “Torso” sculpture, the symbol of the Walk of Style, found its place on Rodeo Drive.
Rodeo Drive is occasionally used by nearby Hollywood studios for film shoots. For example, the famous shopping scene with Julia Roberts from Pretty Woman was filmed here.
Historical Information
From a Horse Trail to an Exquisite Shopping District
Rodeo Drive got its name during the era of Spanish colonial rule. At that time, the site of today’s Rodeo Drive was fertile marshland. “Rodeo Drive” derives from the Spanish translation of the Native American term for “gathering of water”—“El Rodeo de las Aguas.” Until the 1950s, the street was nothing more than a horse trail. With the urban development of Beverly Hills in the 1970s, three blocks of houses sprang up along the 500-meter stretch of North Rodeo Drive between Wilshire Boulevard and Santa Monica Boulevard. Today, it is an exclusive shopping and strolling street frequented by both the wealthy, prominent residents of the area and numerous tourists.
