Description
Within the mediterrane area the Sea Museum Galata is the biggest of its kind, moreover it is the most progressive museum in Italy.
Exhibition
Overall the museum holds 23 exhibition halls spread out over 4 levels. Besides a replica, original in size, of the galleys, the museum offers many interactive exhibitions, that show the former life at sea.
Especially dealt with is the sea trade of the former Republic of Genoa. Furthermore you can see nautical maps and a simulation of a storm raging at Cape Horn. In addition the museum exhibits amongst other things the submarine Nazario Sauro that was just taken off duty in 2002.
To give a more realistic insight in the lives of former sailors, passengers or emigrants the museum offers interactive exhibitions for everyone to participate in and explore life at sea. A whole floor deals with the history of emigrants to America.
The building
Also within the building of the museum you will find different exhibitions concerning different topics, a book store and a cafe.
Walk up to Mirador terrasse and enjoy a great view across Genua.
Historical Information
The Sea Museum Galata opened in 2004 at Palazzo Galata. That is the area, where the galleys were built during the time of the Most Serene Republic of Genoa.

By car:
Take exit Genova- Ovest to get to the museum.
By subway:
Exit at „Stazione Darsena“.
By bus:
Take bus number 12 or 13 and get out at „Stazione di Genova Brignole“.
