Route description
The 13 km long medium-difficult tour leads in about 4 hours from the Steffisalp-Express mountain station via the Hochalphütte and Saloberkopf to the two mountain lakes Körbersee and Kalbelesee. This tour is ideal for the whole family.
From Steffisalp to the Hochalphütte
Ascent with the Steffisalp-Express. Along an idyllic hiking trail you go to the viewpoint "Spitziger Stein". Here you should stop for a short time and enjoy the unique view.
Via the Saloberkopf to the Körbersee
Afterwards the tour leads to the 2.050 meter high Saloberkopf. Here you have reached the highest point of the hike. From now it always goes downhill or straight ahead to the Körbersee. Here is also the mountain hotel where you can take a break.
From the Hochtannbergpass back to Warth
Further north you reach the Kalbelesee at the Hochtannbergpass. Passing the Ski- & Wanderhotel Jägeralpe, you will reach the Alte Salzstrasse back to Warth.
Where to eat
The Hochtalphütte offers a first opportunity to stopp for a bite to eat. From the sun terrace you have a great view of the surrounding moutntain peaks.
At second possibility to take a break is the Berghotel Körbersee. It is located in the middle of one of the most beautiful plant protection areas. Here you can enjoy the view of the breathtaking lake.
Interesting facts
- You're traveling a distance of 12 km on this moderate trail. Average length of all hikes in Vorarlberg is 15 km.
- You're facing an uphill climb of 335 vertical meters on this hike. The high point of the hike is located at an elevation of 2,015 m.

- Sturdy hiking boots are recommended on this track. If you get hungry along the way, there are places to rest and get food. Nevertheless it’s recommended to also have enough water and food in your backpack when hiking or biking.
Highlights of the tour
Viewpoint "Spitziger Stein"
From the mountain station Steffisalp-Express you reach in about 20 minutes the viewpoint "Spitziger Stein". From here you can see the village Warth, the storage lake and numerous surrounding mountain peaks.
Körbersee and Kalbelesee
The Körbersee is located in the middle of a plant protecting area. At the moutain hotel next to the Körbersee you can rent a rowing boat and explore the lake. Afterwards the tour leads to the Kalbelesee at the Hochtannbergpass.
Hochtannbergpass
The Hochtannbergpass is an alpine pass at an altitude of 1.676 meters. It connects the Arlberg with the Tyrolean Lechtal and the Bregenzerwald. Furthermore it forms the watershed between Rhein and Donau.
"Alte Salzstraße"
The last highlight is the "Alte Salzstraße". It runs between the ski and hiking hotel Jägeralpe at the Hochtannbergpass and the district "Wolfegg". Salt was transported here from Hall in Tyrol via the Lechtal Valley to the Großes Walsertal and the Bregenzerwald.
Variations
Those who prefer a shorter variant of the hike, can take the bus back to Warth at the Hochtannbergpass at the bus stop "Salober" or "Jägeralpe".
Equipment
Solid footwear and clothing adapted to the weather, as well as sufficient drinking water is recommended.
Getting here
By car:
You can either take the L200 or the L198 to the Steffisalp car park. From there, the Steffisalp-Express takes you comfortably to the mountain station.
