Route description
The start of the hike marks the parking lot in Riva del Garda. Follow the Via Monte Oro outside of the city from here to reach a forest hiking path which leads your way to the bastion. Continue on the path until you reach the trail numbered SAT 404 in the direction of Capanna Santa Barbara. Simply follow the trail to finally get to the little Santa Barbara chapel where you can enjoy the magnificent view of the region and Riva del Garda next to visiting the charming chapel.
Follow the same paths downhill to get back to Riva del Garda and the starting point of the hike.

Places to get food are available in Riva del Garda. Meanwhile, there are numerous spots to take a rest on your way to the Santa Barbara chapel – especially worth mentioning is the picknick spot Capanna Santa Barbara.
Interesting facts
- You're traveling a distance of 6 km on this moderate trail. The hike is therefore not too long. Average length of all hikes in Trentino is 12 km.
- Sturdy hiking boots are recommended on this track.
Highlights of the tour
The highlight of the tour would definitely be the Santa Bararba chapel that thrones high above the city Riva del Garda. The chapel was built in 1935 and is located on top of 625 meters above sea level next to steep rock faces of the Monte Roccetta.
Moreover, you will pass the remains of the “Bastione” on your way uphill, an old Venetian weir system out of the 16th century.
Equipment
It is very beneficiary to be wearing sturdy footwear. Be sure to have weatherproof clothes and enough fluids to drink with you.
Getting here
By car
To get to Riva del Garda by car take the SS240 or the SS421. In the town itself you have to drive to the Via Monte Oro, where you will find parking spots. This parking lot also marks the starting point of the hike.
