Description
The Titlis Cliff Walk is the highest-altitude suspension bridge in Europe, stretching across the south face of Mount Titlis at 3,041 metres above sea level near Engelberg in central Switzerland. Roughly 100 metres long and just one metre wide, the steel cable construction spans from the south wall window of the summit station to the top station of the Ice Flyer glacier chairlift — with a 500-metre drop, measured along the rock face, yawning beneath your feet. The Cliff Walk is open year-round and included in the return cable car ticket to the Titlis summit.
150 Steps above the Abyss
Crossing the bridge takes just a few minutes and around 150 steps — but they are memorable ones. The structure sways gently with each footfall while the wind whips around the south face. Despite the thrill factor, the Cliff Walk is well secured and suitable for families with children. It is engineered to withstand wind speeds of up to 190 km/h and extreme snow loads. On a clear day, the reward is a panoramic view stretching up to 40 kilometres across the Alps of central Switzerland.
More Glacier Adventures on the Titlis
The Cliff Walk is part of a whole ensemble of experiences on the Titlis glacier. From the summit station, an underground tunnel leads into the Glacier Grotto, taking visitors roughly 20 metres beneath the glacier's surface. The Ice Flyer chairlift glides over crevasses, and the Glacier Park offers snowtubing and other activities. The journey up starts in Engelberg with the Titlis Xpress gondola to the intermediate station at Stand, followed by the Titlis Rotair — the world's first revolving aerial cable car, offering a full 360-degree panorama during the ride. The entire ascent takes around 30 minutes.
How to get there
If you want to visit the TITLIS Cliff Walk, park your car in Engelberg at the valley station of the TITLIS Xpress. From there, ride up to the Stand station, then continue on the spectacular TITLIS Rotair rotating cable car to the summit of Klein Titlis. Once there, an underground tunnel leads you to the viewing platform at the south face window, where the TITLIS Cliff Walk begins.
