Alpine coaster fun on the legendary Loreley Plateau
A thrilling ride with panoramic views of the Rhine: the Loreley-Bob is located on the Loreley Plateau in the heart of the Upper Middle Rhine Valley UNESCO World Heritage Site. Popular with families, hikers and day-trippers alike, the alpine coaster sits just a short walk from the famous Loreley Rock, making it easy to combine your visit with other natural and cultural attractions in the area.
What to expect at the Loreley-Bob
The centrepiece of the attraction is the 700-metre alpine coaster. After being pulled uphill by lift, riders descend the track through a series of bends and sweeping sections back towards the valley. You control your own speed throughout the ride, with top speeds of up to 40 km/h.
The site also features a Pit-Pat course, a unique combination of mini golf and billiards, as well as a wooden marble run with interactive stations inspired by the region's history and traditions. A themed walking trail with information points winds through the area, offering frequent views across the spectacular Middle Rhine Valley. Thanks to its location directly on the Rheinsteig, one of Germany's best-known long-distance hiking trails, the Loreley-Bob also makes an ideal stop during a hike.
There are plenty of other attractions nearby, including the famous Loreley Rock with its viewing platforms, the Loreley Visitor Centre and the open-air theatre. Families will also find a large adventure playground right next to the coaster, featuring climbing structures, balancing elements and plenty of space to play.
Food and drinks
The accessible valley station offers a selection of light snacks and refreshments, including ice cream, coffee, pretzels and soft drinks. If you'd like to extend your visit, several restaurants and cafés can be found within walking distance on the Loreley Plateau. Barbecue facilities are also available on request.
Historical Information
From idea to reality
Plans for an alpine coaster on the Loreley Plateau first emerged in 2008. After several years of planning and extensive consultations with public authorities and heritage organisations, Loreley-Bob GmbH was established in March 2012. Planning permission was granted later that year, allowing construction to begin.
Because the project is located within the Upper Middle Rhine Valley UNESCO World Heritage Site, its development was closely reviewed and accompanied by various organisations throughout the planning process. The alpine coaster officially opened in spring 2013 and has since become a permanent part of the Loreley Plateau's visitor attractions.
How to get there
By car: The Loreley-Bob is located on the Loreley Plateau between St. Goarshausen and Bornich. The site is well signposted, and parking is available directly on the plateau.
By public transport: Take a train to St. Goarshausen. From there, a shuttle bus takes visitors to the Loreley Plateau in around 10 minutes. You can also arrive by boat on the Rhine before continuing by shuttle bus.
On foot or by bike: The famous Rheinsteig Trail passes directly by the Loreley-Bob, making it an ideal stop during a hike through the Upper Middle Rhine Valley. From the riverside, the walk up to the plateau takes around one hour. Cyclists can also include the attraction as a destination or rest stop on a ride through the region.
