Description
Fast-paced fun in the heart of the island
Think Rügen is only about sandy beaches and dramatic chalk cliffs? Then head to Rugard Hill in Bergen, where you'll find a completely different kind of adventure. Surrounded by beech forest, scenic viewpoints and family attractions, the Bergen Island Alpine Coaster offers thrills all year round. As Germany's northernmost year-round alpine coaster, it's a great destination in every season – whether you're racing through lush green woodland in summer or enjoying the peaceful winter scenery.
Speed through bends, jumps and the action spiral
The 700-metre track descends 27 metres in elevation, taking riders through seven steep bends, a double wave, several jumps and finishing with a spectacular action spiral. Experienced riders can reach speeds of more than 50 km/h, while everyone remains in full control of their speed throughout the ride. Whether you prefer a leisurely descent through the forest or a faster, more adrenaline-filled run, the choice is entirely yours.
Food and refreshments
After a few rides, you won't have to go far to grab a bite to eat. Right next to the coaster you'll find a snack kiosk and a traditional bratwurst stand serving drinks, light meals and refreshments. The outdoor terrace is also a great place to relax while watching the action on the track.
More to discover at Rugard
If you're still full of energy after your rides, there are plenty of other attractions nearby. Climb the distinctive Ernst Moritz Arndt Tower for panoramic views across much of the island of Rügen, take on the giant slide tower with its multiple slides, explore the extensive woodland walking trails, or let younger visitors enjoy the playgrounds in the Rugard recreation area.
Historical Information
A year-round attraction with historic surroundings
The Bergen Island Alpine Coaster opened in 2005 and has been Germany's northernmost year-round alpine coaster ever since. Its location on Rugard Hill was carefully chosen, as this prominent hill is one of Rügen's most historic landmarks. The wooded ridge was once home to a Slavic hill fort, while today it has become a popular destination for both visitors and locals looking to enjoy nature and outdoor recreation.
How to get there
The Bergen Island Alpine Coaster is located at Rugardweg 7, 18528 Bergen auf Rügen. Thanks to its central location in Bergen, it's easy to reach from almost anywhere on the island by car.
Parking is available directly at the site, and from the car park it's just a short walk to the alpine coaster and the other attractions within the Rugard Adventure Park.
