The city of Granada is the capital of the province with the same name in Andalusia in south Spain. Being located within an area full of hills and especially fertile soils, Granada can look upon a 1,500 year old history very proudly. The area around Granada was witness of many different cultures in which all kinds of nations have settled. The construction of the castle on top of one of the cities hills after the Moors conquered the Iberian Peninsula and the very common swaps of power here deliver ideal proof of the regions importance.
There are about 240,000 people living in the city today and Granada is still dependent on its fertile agriculture ground to this day . Another very important economic sector is of course tourism. Many people from all over the world want to visit the city with a background full of stories. That is probably also why the comparably small city of Granada is home to one of the largest universities in the country with over 60,000 students.
