At the foot of the Loser lies Lake Altaussee, one of the most beautiful lakes in the Salzkammergut. Because of its deep blue color, the lake is also called the “dark blue inkwell.” All around the lake, many small beaches offer the chance to cool off in the refreshing water and enjoy the sun against a magnificent mountain backdrop.

Just a few kilometers away lies Lake Grundlsee.

Altaussee Schifffahrt operates a solar-powered boat or a traditional “Plätte” between the Madlmaier pier and Seewiese. The Seewiese hunting lodge and Lake Altaussee served as filming locations for the 2015 James Bond movie *Spectre*.

A 7.5-kilometer loop trail runs around the lake. Along the way, numerous benches invite you to take a break and offer great views of the Trisselwand, the Loser, and the glaciers of the Dachstein Massif.
