Description
Art and culture united
An attraction of a special kind awaits visitors to southern Burgenland in the artists' village of Neumarkt an der Raab, where art and culture unite in a very special way. You can also admire buildings that radiate a unique style and charm.
Events
The artists' village is exactly what its name so aptly characterizes: A place where artists and art lovers can meet, exchange ideas and inspire each other. Within the framework of the so-called Summer Academy, courses are held every year that cover everything from classical oil painting to modern photography in the artistic spectrum. In 2014, courses will take place here from 7 July to 22 August, for which you can register online on the Artist Village website.
The village
What is special, however, is not only the extensive art program of the village, but also the venue itself. The artists' village in Neumarkt consists of a venerable village gallery, the so-called Kreuzstadl, a printing workshop, the oldest cinema in Burgenland and three farmhouses, the roofs of which are still covered with straw and thus the eye-catcher of the entire village. But in this unique village it's not just a matter of simply strolling along the charming buildings, because here you also have the opportunity to stay overnight in them. Rooms and studios can be rented for a few nights as well as for several weeks, so that a stay in the context of a relaxed weekend, but for die-hard art lovers also for longer time, is worthwhile. Since the respective prices also include the use of Nordic Walking poles, children's playgrounds and barbecue meadows, families also get their money's worth here. But even if you're looking for more secluded relaxation, you've come to the right place, because you'll find plenty of peace and quiet in the partly integrated libraries.
How to get there
By car:
If you travel to the artists' village by car, it is best to take the A2 first. Coming from Vienna you should take the exit in Bad Waltersdorf or leave the A2 from the south in Gleisdorf or Ilz/Fürstenfeld. After the respective exits you only have to follow the country road until you arrive in Neumarkt.
By public transport:
You can also reach Neumarkt by bus. Here you use the connection Wien-Jennersdorf and drive the cheapest via Friedberg-Aspang or Graz. Exact times and prices can be requested on the ÖBB website.
