The city of León was the capital of the influential and equally named former empire, one of the most important predecessors of Spain, which underlines the importance of the city. Especially the architecture of the constructions in the Gothic style are astonishing, such as the Santa María de León Cathedral in the heart of the city. With the Casa de Botines one of Antoni Gaudí's earliest works can also be found in the city that is located on the Camino de Santiago (Way of St. James). Another famous building would be the Basilica of San Isidoro, which roots can be tracked back to the 10th century.
