Azerbaijan – A country with many facets
With its unique geographical location between Europe and Asia, Azerbaijan intertwines many cultural influences. The country is rich in culture as it is home to a unique cultural heritage, presenting a wide range of flamboyant ancient architecture. Landscape-wise, it has many unknown trails up for exploration amidst undiscovered natural landscapes, sunny beaches and also many culinary highlights to offer. The prevailing climate makes the country attractive to be visited in any season of the year. While you may explore exotic ski areas in wintertime, the summer has beautiful beaches for sunbathing sessions. Autumn and spring are, weather-wise, the perfect seasons for hiking and rock climbing.
Baku
Azerbaijan has been enjoying a growing popularity in the tourist section over the past years. It is especially Baku, Azerbaijan's vibrant capital city, that attracts visitors from all around the world – intertwining modern and ancient times. Also, in 2015 it is the venue for the first European Games. When here, you may want to see the impressive ramparts “Icheri Sheher” protecting the entire old town with the Virgin Tower, dating back to the 12th century, the palace of the Shirvanshas and the former residency deriving from the 15th century. Baku has so many other sights to discover, such as mosques, caravansary and ancient baths. In total, there are 44 medieval monuments that are spread all over Baku, Azerbaijan's impressive capital city.
