Description

The Greek Orthodox Church on the island of Mykonos in the Little Venice district is one of the island's tourist attractions. The church consists of a total of five churches that have been joined together. Initially, there were only four churches: Saint Estathios, Saint Sozon, Saint Anargyroi, and Saint Anastasia. The first of these churches was built in 1425. Over the years, the churches increasingly became a complex, and this image was completed when another church was added to the other four.
Since the churches were all built at different times, they also embody different architectural styles, such as Byzantine and Western. The churches used to mark the entrance to Mykonos Castle, which was completely destroyed over the years. This is where the church gets its name, which means “church next to the entrance gate.”
Visiting
As the church is now in danger of collapsing, it is no longer open to visitors. Nevertheless, it is still worth visiting, especially at sunrise or sunset.
How to get there
On foot:
The church is located on the coast of Mykonos Island, in the town of the same name. It is directly to the right of the medieval castle of Mykonos. The church is easily accessible on foot from the town.
