The history of the bath goes back to the 19th century, when Franz Frühbeck Senior built the first steam bath in Sibiu. In 1886 Johann Habermann bought the bath complex and renovated the building fundamentally and extended it in some places until it shone in its present form. Since both buildings were designed by the architect Karl Hocheder, the public bath Sibiu is very similar to the Müller'schen Volksbad in Munich.

Today the public bath Sibiu has only one pool in the interior, but in this you are offered a lot. Especially the offer of the water gymnastics is a flagship of the public bath, because here you can choose from a large offer. The clear advantage of this sport is the fact that you don't just train a few body regions, but have to use all your muscles in the water. The combination of high physical exertion and the relaxing effect of the water make the water gymnastics courses a perfect offer of the public bath, which is used by almost all visitors. Since the so-called Aqua Gym can be practiced regardless of age and physical condition, the bath here has several courses that will noticeably promote your health. In addition, there are also various swimming courses where young and old can learn to swim or simply train their skills.

Public bath temporarily closed

The Volksbad Sibiu has been closed for renovation work since August 1, 2018. Work is expected to be completed end of March 2020. 

You can sweat in a total of 32 cabins and do something good for your immune system.

Cosmetic treatments

In the area of cosmetics you can choose between a variety of treatments in the public bath Sibiu. On the one hand you will find here traditional offers like facial massages and some different masks, which clean your skin pore-deep and let it shine again. On the other hand there are some waxing treatments as well as make-up offers, so that no wish remains open at this point. Should the female visitors not have enough after this program, they can visit the in-house hairdressing salon.

The rooms are equipped with equipment for strength and cardio training. Since the courses and their use are usually under supervision, you also have a trained supervision and can in no case do the fitness exercises wrong. The other offers in the wellness area are also quite impressive. On the one hand you have the possibility to use various bathtubs and showers and to relax completely in the warmth of the water. On the other hand, you can also enjoy a Roman-Irish sweat bath, in which your circulation is stimulated above all by the constant temperature changes.

By car

From Brașov

You first drive on DN1 and pass Codlea and Făgăraş until you reach the crossing with DN7. At this point, keep right to stay on the main road. This will now take you to the centre of Sibiu, where you will also find the public bath.

From Deva

On the DN7 you leave the city first in the direction of Mintia and turn right onto the A1. Now you follow it into the first foothills of Sibiu, where you change to DN1 to finally reach the bath.

From Turda

You first follow DN1 to Sebeș and change here to A1. This will take you the shortest way to Sibiu, where you will then leave it again to reach the bath via DN1 again.

With public transport

If you are in the city of Sibiu, you can take the bus number 2 in the direction of Piata Cibin 3 and get off at Teatru. This is located directly on the opposite street. The bus number 11 will also take you to the spa, taking you in the direction of Cedonia and getting off at the Casa Armatei after four stops. Lines 10, 111, 112 and 114 also use this route.
