Description
The Techmania Science Center has invited its visitors to discover the fields of science and technology in an interactive manner since 2008 and offers the opportunity of witnessing unique experiments from up close. The location is very distinct already: The museum is located in two former factory halls of the Czech car manufacturer Škoda. Dive deep in the world of stars, planets, molecules and atoms!
The Science Center sets the goal of making more people excited for the field of natural science by answering current questions of applied sciences. Thus, the factor of enthusiasm should never come in short: The museum's visitors get to see thrilling phenomenons of nature in the numerous shows and experiments plus in the 3D planetarium.
The 3D planetarium
The 3D planetarium is the newest acquisition of the Techmania Science Center in Pilsen. Get comfortable in one of the cozy chairs and come along on an exciting journey to the moon, the sun or even to stardust millions of light years away. There is an offer of different presentations depending on the age of the visiting group, which gives everyone the possibility to set sail for a galaxy far far away suitable for his or her age.
Outer space exhibition
Directly by the planetarium you will find the exhibition on the outer space. Discover everything you need to know about our solar system here. Moreover, questions like what Kepler's laws of planetary motion are, since when humans have watched and discovered the stars, which lunar phases there are and many more will surely be answered in here.
Interactive globe
Observe numerous phenomenons around the entire world on the interactive globe. These wonders of nature are being projected in a specific way onto a ball so that a miniature planet earth can occur.
Science Center
In the large Science Center visitors get the chance to witness global phenomenons in close proximity. Find out more about the element water in the so called “water world” and experiment with it. Hence, follow the way of the water from the clouds to the ocean and back. The next department focuses entirely on anthropology and the animals of the earth. Compare your skills to the ones of certain animals and you'll notice how well adapted some species are in certain areas. How hard can a alligator bite? Who is faster than a chicken? Find the answer to these questions and so much more!
Meanwhile, the field of physics comes alive in the edutorium of the Science Center. Tackle the questions of limits of physical laws on this world yourself in here. Experiment with sound, generate a vacuum, discover the seemingly magic attraction of magnets, play with light and shadow or make your hair stand up high in the electricity-experiment.
The science area called “It's a trap!” is also very popular among the visitors of the museum. Your own skills are on the test here. See how well you can do in tests on your reaction time and coordination, in solving different logical problems and examining your brain.
Shows
There are daily shows within the Techmania at 12:30, three and five pm. Beware however – these are more than spectacular. Burning liquids, ice cold nitrogen and cracking whips are all to be witnessed here!
Škoda exhibition
Since the Techmania Science Center is located in the former factory halls of Škoda, there is an extra exhibition on the Czech car manufacturer with a great tradition. The exhibition shows important mile stones in the development of Škoda and has many car exhibits to offer. Historic tools, miniatures of trolleybuses and the reconstruction of an old steam turbine out of the 1920s plus much more can be seen here.
