Route description
From the east end of Neusach you keep following the signs in the direction of Ronacherfels. The first part of the tour is composed of a partially asphalted road and a wide dirt road. Therefore, the path is suitable for families with children or prams (at least until you get to Ronacherfels). After appr. 25 minutes you'll reach Ronacherfels. Here, at the Waterfront Hotel, you'll have the possibility to have a meal and/ or a drink. Leaving the Ronacherfels behind, you'll continue the tour on a forest path. After 35 minutes you'll pass an unstaffed refuge hut. Adjacent to it you'll find a spring (Tschöllankofel), which might come handy on hot days for refreshment. Just after a few minutes you'll reach the final destination of the tour, the Kleine Steinwand. From there you'll head back to the starting point.
Interesting facts
- You're traveling a distance of 4 km on this easy trail. The hike is therefore not too long. The average length of all hikes in Carinthia is 15 km.
- You're facing an uphill climb of 100 vertical meters on this hike. The track is therefore relatively flat. The high point of the hike is located at an elevation of 1,003 m.
- This easy hike is perfect for the whole family. What’s even better: You can also bring the family’s best friend on this dog friendly hike. (See all dog friendly hikes in Carinthia.)
- In case of good weather conditions, the hike can also be done without bringing your hiking boots. There are places to buy beverages and food along the track. However it’s always recommended to bring enough water and food along with you.
Highlights of the tour
On most parts of the tour you'll have a permanent view on the Weissensee. In between you'll also have the possibility to jump into the water for a refreshing swim.
Variations
Variant 1:
From the Kleine Steinwand carry on further eastwards via the Hohe Steinwand, where one can enjoy a wonderful view on the lake and, on the opposite side, the dark Lakawände. Then continue through the camping site along the east lakeside until you reach the Dolomitenblick, which is facilitated with a shipping pier. Both sites will serve meals and drinks. You can hop on a liner and head back to Neusach or Techendorf.
Variant 2:
If you do not wish to hike back to Neusach, you'll have the chance to take a liner at Ronacherfels instead. Liners operate the whole day on the lake.
Equipment
For a hike, comfortable shoes are recommendable.
