Montorfano - The mountain with the heart made out of granite
Fromthe starting point walk towards the town center and follow the signs that will guide you to the hiking trail towards Oriola. Afterwards pass the junction and follow the trail until you get to a non tarred road. Stay on that road until you get back to the trail and follow the sign Montorfano: „The mountain with the heart made out of granite.“
The town Montorfano
Shortly afterwards switch to a tarred road which leads winding up the mountain passed a cemetery into the small town Montorfano. Perfect to take a rest and to visit the town's old churches and houses. You will also find a charming trattoria up there to get some food and enjoy the view on the outlet of river Tosa.
Amazing view
Following the trail up towards the peak you will pass a climbing wall, a disused stone pit and various observation points to enjoy the amazing view.
Back to Mergozzo
Now walk back down back to the starting point. To get back simply follow the hiking trail towards Cadorna, on which you will reach a small plain. Hold on a minute and enjoy a stunning view. Eventually you will pass former ammunition dumps where you keep walking downwards until you reach some old shanties. Now keep right and follow a small path. This time you will pass a disused mine, stay on the path until you reach the town Mergozzo and you are almost back where you started.

The small town Montorfano offers a trattoria called Belvedere to get some food and rest.
Interesting facts
- You're traveling a distance of 12 km on this moderate trail. The average length of all hikes in Piedmont is 12 km.
- Make sure to bring sturdy footwear on this track. Hiking boots are highly recommended. There are places to buy beverages and food along the track. However it’s always recommended to bring enough water and food along with you.

Getting here
By car:
To get to the starting point right at Lago di Mergozzo drive via SS33 and leave the highway at Mergozzo. Right at the entrance to the town park your car and walk towards the town center.
