Route description
Starting at the train station walk west passed church St. Martin and up to Treibern. Now follow the path till you turn left into shadowy copse until you reach Eugst. Then follow a broad ski path up to alp Bommen and forest Gartenwald. To enjoy the view on Kamor, Hoher Kasten and the rock wall of Alp Siegl turn left. Within the rock wall of Ebenalp you can find the slightly hidden mountain guest house Äscher.
Cross the wooden bridge attached to the rock wall until the caves of Wildkirchli. First you will enter cave Altarhöhle where there is a small wooden tower from the 19th century. Walking through the following caves you will get to Ebenalp. The cave Wildkirchlihöhle is known for its prehistoric corpi from the stone age. Amongst other things skeletons of cave bears and stone tools where found and nowadays presented at the museum of Appenzell an the museum of St. Gallen.
After visting the caves hike up the plateau of Ebenalp and enjoy the astonishing panorama. Take the aerial cableway back down.

- You're facing an uphill climb of 687 vertical meters on this hike. The high point of the hike is located at an elevation of 1,610 m.
- Sturdy hiking boots are recommended on this track. There are places to buy beverages and food along the track. However it’s always recommended to bring enough water and food along with you.
