Route description
This challenging trail along Oberweißbach mountain railway has a lot in store for mountainbike fans. The 1.7km/1mi descent down 340m/1,115ft of vertical drop, with gradients of up to 25 percent leads you through the woods, over rocks and roots, and is one of the highlights of the trail.
Start the tour in Lichtenhain, at the top station of the mountain railway. The 7km/4.3mi trail features a little asphalted road, 1.7km/1mi of forest path, and 5km/3.1mi of forest road. You will repeatedly come across the mountain railway line. Furthermore, you enjoy a great view over Schwarzatal valley right after the start in Lichtenhain.
The descent ends at the mountain railway's base station. From there, a 5km/3.1mi ascent on easy, but steep forest roads leads you back to the top station. If you don't have the stamina for that, you can take the mountain railway instead. Between 6.30 am and 8 pm it operates every half hour. Taking your bike costs extra, and only 8 bikes are transported per hour, however.
