Dolomite is certainly a familiar name to friends of Italian fashion. For more than a century, the Italian company has been producing and developing high-quality fashion for outdoor fans. The development is remarkable. From a small shoe factory, to the outfitter of numerous expeditions to the trendy sports fashion brand with its own sustainability certificate. We present the history of the Dolomite brand in more detail below.
Innovative shoes for the mountain
Dolomite has its origins in Treviso, Italy, in the Veneto region. There it all began in 1897 when the only 17-year-old shoemaker Giuseppe Garbuio produced particularly robust work shoes in his small shoe factory.
In the ski boot sector, Dolomite soon convinced with further innovations. Thus, the outdoor brand produced the first full leather ski boots, in 1939 the first custom-fit models for bindings and 30 years later the first plastic ski boots.
Conquering the fashion Olympus with fur boots
In the 1950s, numerous expedition teams became aware of Dolomite's highly functional products. At the time, they were the most modern products available on the market for such ventures.
For this reason, an Italian mountaineering team equipped themselves with Dolomite's special fur boots to climb K2, the second highest mountain on earth. They were, in fact, the first people to succeed in reaching the summit with the help of Dolomite's handmade fur boots, which were perfectly suited for such extreme conditions.
Over time, the boots were developed further and soon conquered the fashion Olympus with their extravagant look
From a shoe specialist to a trendy sports fashion brand
In addition to high-quality shoes, the insulating down jackets from Dolomite increasingly became the focus of extreme athletes in the 1960s. They protected, among others, conquerors of Mount Everest and expedition teams on their way to Greenland at up to minus 40 degrees
Finally, in the 1980s Dolomite increasingly focused on fashion and presented a complete outdoor and sportswear collection to the public in Italy for the first time. The Dolomite down jackets quickly gained a cult status - until today!
The spirit of adventure that accompanied Dolomite from the beginning in the production of its products is now reflected in the latest collections. Some models bear the names of mountains and mountain ranges that played an important role in Dolomite's history, such as the "Jacket W's 1954 Karakorum Evo" or the "Parka M's 60 Dhaulagiri".
Always in the spirit of the environment
With the creation of Re-source by Dolomite, its own sustainability certificate, Dolomite is increasingly committed to preserving the environment. The aim is to develop and promote sustainable corporate management.
Thanks to ecologically sustainable construction solutions, products marked with Re-source by Dolomite stand for this socially responsible project. Two thirds of the collection is now made of environmentally friendly materials. This sustainable development is to be pushed further in the future.
